“Bigger Than You” [ft. Drake & Quavo]
“Bigger Than You,” 2 Chainz’s new one-off single with Quavo and
Drake, begins modestly: Quavo sounds plugged in but uninspired, and the beat thumps half-heartedly. Then 2 Chainz saunters up, offering, "Chain so big, shoulda came with a kickstand,” and yes, now we’re listening. He can still stop a rote rap song in its tracks like he’s lunging for closing elevator doors, and this far into his best-guest-rapper-alive dominance, it's tempting to start thinking of him as the best: He has kept his spirit antic and imagination vivid longer than, say, previous holders of this crown, Luda or Nicki. On “Bigger Than You,” he towers genially over Quavo as well as Drake, who rattles off a few decent lines about nothing much and, perhaps studiously, about no one in particular—he briefly remembers a woman who made fun of his singing but otherwise sinks into the background as 2 Chainz surges into your earbuds. When the song ends, it fades into a memory roughly in his shape.
